Why Are My Eyes Blue?
First let’s talk about the iris. This is the part of the eye that we are talking about when we say “my eyes are blue”. The front layer of the iris is called the stroma and this is what makes eye colour different for each person.
Eye colour has everything to do with the amount of melanin in the stroma of your iris. Brown eyes have lots of melanin and blue eyes have very little melanin.
What is an OCT?
The OCT takes a very detailed cross-section image of the eye as well as a retinal photo. Dr. Hines looks at these images side-by-side which allows her to pinpoint exactly where within the retina a problem may lie. This allows for a quick diagnosis of so many retinal diseases. She can also detect early signs of diabetes and high blood pressure using these images.

Children's Eye Exams Are Important
Does my child have a vision problem?
-
Is my child squinting or frowning when trying to spot near or far objects?
-
Does my child rub his/her eyes or blink excessively?
-
Is my child exhibiting poor eye tracking skills?
-
Does my child have trouble with coordination? Hand-eye or body-eye coordination during physical activities such as a game of catch or riding a bike can arise from difficulty seeing.
No more air puff test!!!!
We have all had those eye exams where we go in dreading the air puff test. There is nothing to like about this part of an eye exam, I mean having to keep your eyes open while you have air blown into them should come with a prize of its own. Its purpose is to find out whether or not you have elevated eye pressure, although elevated eye pressure does not automatically mean you have glaucoma, it elevates your chances of leading to glaucoma. Let’s face it, like blood pressure, we would rather you keep your eye pressure at a lower level than a high one.
Why you should get prescription sunglasses?
Whenever there is mention of prescription sunglasses, most people ask the question: Are prescription sunglasses worth it? If you are an outdoorsy person who likes to hike, bike, walk in the sunshine or if you simply like to drive around during sunny weather, then most definitely yes they are worth it. Prescription glasses are necessary to some and even require a special coating to protect their eyes from computer or phone screens. So why not invest in a good pair of sunglasses that you know will protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays?
